Siege of Avaricum
51 BCE · France, Europe · War
The siege of Avaricum in 52 BC was fought during Julius Caesar's Gallic Wars, when Roman legions besieged the fortified town of the Bituriges (modern Bourges). After weeks in bad weather the Romans stormed the walls and, by Caesar's own account, killed almost the entire population.
