Battle of Akhalzic

The Battle of Akhaltsikhe was fought in August 1828 during the Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829, at the Ottoman fortress town of Akhaltsikhe in present-day southern Georgia. A Russian force under General Ivan Paskevich defeated a larger Ottoman relief army on 9 August and then took the heavily fortified town by storm on 15-16 August. The victory gave Russia control of the region and its surrounding province.
