About Datestone
Datestone is an interactive globe of human history. Every point is a real event - a battle, a treaty, a discovery, a disaster, a first flight. You can claim a moment: your name (or a dedication of your choosing) and a short note are recorded next to that event, permanently, and shown to everyone who finds it.
What a claim is - and isn't
A claim is a symbolic, novelty dedication. It is a way to mark a connection to a moment in history - a memorial, a gift, a personal landmark. It is not ownership. It conveys no legal right, no property interest, no copyright or trademark, and no authority over the event, its name, or any depiction of it. Anyone else may write about, reference, or depict the same event freely. This is the same basis on which star-naming registries and similar keepsakes operate.
One holder, forever
Each moment has exactly one holder. There is no reselling, no auctions, and no secondary market - deliberately. A claim is a keepsake, not an asset.
Where the events come from
The dataset is built from Wikidata and Wikipedia, filtered to events that have a location, a date, and broad encyclopedic coverage, plus a hand-curated core. Descriptions link to Wikipedia. If you spot an error, use the “Report” button on a moment.
Events we don't sell
Some events - genocides, the Holocaust, recent mass-casualty attacks - remain on the map for completeness but are marked not claimable. We don't profit from them.
